Applications for the Flour Mills of Nigeria Prize for Innovation Season 2 have begun and are available to Nigerian students and registered businesses in the agro-processing and food production space. FMN’s Prize for Innovation aims to highlight new and imaginative ways to achieve sustainability in Nigeria’s food value chain.

About the Prize.

The Flour Mills of Nigeria (FMN) Prize for Innovation seeks to recognise innovative and creative approaches to achieving sustainability in Nigeria’s food value chain.

This year’s campaign aims to promote local content development in Nigeria’s food and agro-allied sectors in order to promote sustainable food production. Participants in this year’s competition will create unique solutions to promote a paradigm shift away from reliance on imported raw resources and toward strengthening local capacities to sustain local populations.

The call for application for FMN’s Prize for Innovation is now open in two categories with the chance of winning the star prize of N5 million.

  1. Star Prize: Stand the chance of winning the star prize of N5 million.
  2. Project Theme: Innovative techniques for local content development in the food and agro-allied sector.

Flour Mills of Nigeria Prize for Innovation Categories

Are you a registered food or agro-allied business in Nigeria or you are a student with interest in the food and agro-allied industry, then you should participate in the second edition of FMN’s Prize for Innovation.

This year’s edition seeks innovative ways to develop and increase usage of local materials in the food industry, to meet local demands.

  1. Category 1: Registered Businesses (Micro, Small & Medium Scale Enterprise Owners)
  2. Category 2: Nigerian Students (Undergraduates & Post Graduates)

Flour Mills of Nigeria Prize for Innovation Eligibility

Category 1: Registered Businesses (Micro, Small & Medium Scale Enterprise Owners)
  1. Micro, Small, and Medium Scale Enterprises (MSMEs) that are registered in Nigeria and operate in the agro-processing and food production space.
  2. Your big idea and innovative solution should address a shift from dependence on raw materials import to prioritize local content usage in Nigeria’s food and agro-allied sector.
  3. Your idea should have a solid proof-of-concept, a social or commercial purpose, and a clear roadmap to scale.

Prizes to be won

  • The winner from this category will get N5,000,000.
  • First runner-up will get N3,000,000.
  • Second runner-up will get N2,000,000.
  • Note: For category 1, FMN will provide other value-based opportunities to the top 5 applicants which includes; training, seminars, and networking opportunities.
Category 2: Nigerian Students (Undergraduate and postgraduate level)
  1. Your big idea and innovative solution must address a shift from dependence on raw materials import to prioritize local content usage in Nigeria’s food and agro-allied sector.
  2. Your idea has a solid proof-of-concept and a social or commercial purpose.

Prizes to be won.

  • First prize – N300,000
  • Second Prize – N200,000
  • Third Prize – N100,000

All entries will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  • Ingenuity of the ideas
  • Social/commercial purpose of the idea
  • Thoroughness of research
  • Impact & Scalability
  • Likelihood of the success of the enterprise
